I have been a very poor blogger as of late due to the fact that I have been a very poorly blogger.
I have had a string of really annoying illnesses including flu, laryngitis and finally a rater horrific rash that itches horribly. Not fun at all.
However in the 4 days that I haven’t been ill I did have a rather good time. A friend from Dubai was in the UK for a little holiday so we arranged to meet up, eat food and shop. It was all rather wonderful. We went to the most amazing Gastro Pub for food where I was served nothing less than the most beautifully cooked piece of salmon I have ever eaten, the crispiest and most authentic chips, amazing roasted brussel sprouts with bacon and finally an utterly Christmas inspired apple and cinnamon crumble. It was such good eating. We topped off the day by investing in a Playstation 3 and sing star game for a very deserving friend who played host for the days we stayed at his place (and not for the first or last time I feel).
We ventured to Kingston on day 2 for some oh so good shopping. I never realised just how amazing the shopping in Kingston is. They do seem to have every shop you could want to go into. We also went around the obligatory Christmas market they had. The stall holders were selling some of the most weird and wonderful things! There were Fish aquariums that you mounted on your walls like pictures, a massage system for people with painful joints, pink goo that cleaned glasses lenses and prevented them steaming up, Christmas cakes (of course) but most strangely a French man wielding a large pair of shears and slicing thick branches in two. After such a mammoth shopping expedition we felt it proper to relax in our hosts hot tub. He is most fortunate to have this hot tub situated conveniently in the garden surrounded by an authentic ‘wooden house’. It is a most wonderful invention but not one I would choose to have in my back yard. There seems to be an adverse amount of ‘pool chemistry’ required before people can go in and come back out with skin still attached.
We also watched a couple of movies whilst I was there. ‘Doomsday’ was rather gory but had a sufficiently dark and gritty storyline for it to carry off all the blood and guts. My favorite of the two was definitely ‘Zack and Miri Make a Porno’. It is written and directed by Kevin Smith. I have always been a fan of his work and have diligently watched and purchased most of his previous titles e.g. Clerks, Chasing Amy, Mall Rats, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Dogma. I was not disappointed by Zack and Miri at all. It was not only hilariously funny but heart warmingly sweet too. Seth Rogan (who plays Zack) does seem to do the awkward romantic male lead type of role very well and it was very reminiscent of his performance in ‘Knocked Up’ but that was what the film needed so it fitted perfectly. I would recommend ‘Zack and Miri make a Porno’ for anyone who dislikes “Romcoms” because it makes the romcom genre work but in one of the most unromantic situations you can think of. Very amusing and fun for (almost) anyone over the age of 18 but under the age of 60.
